Stoney Cove – 3rd June

11 go mad in Leicestershire

With the warmer weather seemingly with us for the month, the group descended upon Stoney Cove for a series of training dives, brushing up on our general skills and with aims of progressing the towards our respective Ocean and Sports Diver qualifications. With the majority of the team arriving on site at 9.00 (some of us need to get on the road a little earlier), a quick site briefing, buddy pairs arranged, exercises agreed and we were into the water. The visibility was as good as usual, with clear water over 10m. Having resolved the normal teething troubles (leaky masks, insufficient weight, etc..).

we descended to the 6m platform for skills practise under the tuition of Roger and Steve. A couple of us didn’t have the attention span to concentrate so went off to play with the fish.

Overall 3 dives were completed, with most people clocking up over 1h 30mins diving; visiting the Helicopter, Bus, swimming through the ship, between which we took in the delights of the cafe and their sausage rolls.

Someone had a few too many chips which caused an early exit on their last dive! Sadly Nessie was nowhere to be seen this trip. We will keep our eyes open next time.

Wrapping up the day at the Inn, the team reflected on a wonderful days diving, great knowledge shared ( our best part and area for improvement).

Thanks again to Roger and Steve for arranging the day. Here’s to the next jaunt up north.
