8:30 pm – 10:00 pm
Aimed at groups up to a maximum of 12 people, we run “Try Dives” most Monday evenings 8.30pm – 10.00pm at Stowe School Swimming pool. It is important to note that we do not arrive on site until 8:15 pm at the earliest, please time your arrival accordingly. Virtually everyone over the age of 7 (younger by arrangement) can enjoy a try dive, although you need to be 12 years old before you can learn to dive. From the Pool we go to select the kit for the session to ensure it fits.
We are a “not for profit” organisation, however we charge £20.00 per person or £160 for groups of 10 – 12 people. Cash or cheque (payable to Stowe Sub Aqua Club) on arrival, is fine.
The medical form everyone needs to complete in advance to ensure it is safe for us to take you in the pool can be downloaded here. For people under 18 it also needs signing by a parent or guardian, please bring the completed form with you, together with your payment.
We regularly run try dive events for local Scouts, Guides, youth groups, Cadets, birthday parties etc. and would be happy to run one for you. For safety and to ensure the event runs smoothly we can take a maximum of 12 people at a time.
The “Try Dive” includes equipment hire and selection, a 10 minute safety briefing and then about 40 minutes in the swimming pool with a Nationally qualified instructor, followed by a debrief. This allows people to experience the underwater world, in a safe environment. Each participant also receives some information and a signed certificate. The whole session lasts about 2 hours.
If you have a shorty wet suit or swimming top you can wear that, if not an old T shirt will be fine, it means you get less cold in the pool and it also prevents the equipment from rubbing on you, we also have a range of wet suits available on the day. Clearly you also need a swimming costume and a towel.
If you want to progress following your try dive, the full SCUBA course consists of 3 modules. 7 simple theory lessons followed by a quick test, 8 swimming pool sessions followed by an assessment and about 10 dives in a local quarry.
We run courses throughout the year should anyone wish to learn to dive. The course includes all the above, 12 months membership of the club & BSAC, insurance, hire of all the equipment you need, entrance to the swimming pool, all the course material, your qualification record and your dive certification. Once you have passed this allows you to dive anywhere in the world. After you have qualified, we run a range of additional diving and skill development courses up to diving instructor level.
If you have any queries, feel free to email or call and we can discuss your specific needs further. More information including directions on how to find us, is also available on our web site.
